Prayers and Devotions

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

---- I Thessalonians, 5:16-8

Standard Prayers

The Our Father

Our Father, who is in heaven,
Hallowed is Your name.
Your Kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
Amen.

The Magnificat

My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
For he has looked with favour on the lowliness of His servant.
Amen.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and in the hour of our death.
Amen.

Prayers for Special Occasions

A Morning Prayer

Almighty God, Who alone gave us the breath of life,
We ask You, for Your compassion's sake, to sanctify all our thoughts and actions,
That we may begin all endeavours with pure intention and to continue with Your blessing;
Drive far off all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep Your law,
And guide our feet into the way of peace;
So that having done Your will with cheerfulness while it was day,
We may rejoice to give You thanks when the night comes;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Night Prayer

O God, Who is the light of the faithful,
The strength of those who labour,
And the rest of those who have ceased;
We thank You for the blessings of the day,
And ask that in Your mercy, You grant us a safe and holy rest,
And peace to the last. Amen.

For Confidence

O God of peace, Who has taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved,
In quietness and confidence shall be our strength.
By the might of Your Spirit lift us, we ask You, to Your presence,
Where we may be still and know that You are God;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
